Climate Change: FAU Research Priority 

In 2010, climate change research was designated as one of three FAU-wide Research Priorities. CES was chosen to lead this effort. As part of this work, CES requested that faculty throughout the university submit proposals to support their climate change related research. A total of 15 proposals were submitted by faculty from FAU's Colleges of  Science, Design & Social Inquiry, and Engineering & Computer Sciences. The following 6 projects received funding:

• A Shoreline Inventory/Characterization Tool as a plug-in to ARCGIS -  Diana Mitsova, PhD, Assistant Professor, School of Urban and Regional Planning 
• Development and Evaluation of a New Statistical Downscaling Model for Precipitation Climate Change Projections for Florida - Dr. Ramesh Teegavarapu, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering
• Monitoring the Impacts of Climate Change on Coral Reefs using Underwater 3D Laser Scanning Techniques - Dr. Mustafa Berber, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering
• Effects of Water Temperature and pH on the Metabolite Biosynthesis of Coral Reef Algae - Dr. Lyndon West, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
• Assessing Climate Knowledge and Participation in Southeast Florida - Dr. Patricia Widener, Department of Sociology
• Integrated Modeling Methodology for Energy Resource Planning and Climate Change Mitigation Assessment - Dr. Chaouki Ghenai, Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering
