Outline

Algae vary in size from microscopic to large enough to see with the naked eye. Microscopic algae live dispersed in the water or grow as a mat attached to surfaces beneath the water. Macroalgae are large enough to see with the naked eye and grow attached to surfaces beneath the water or float freely. Algae require sunlight, water, select nutrients, and carbon dioxide to grow through photosynthesis. Some algae have photosynthetic adaptations to capture the optimal amount of sunlight. This video examines the different forms of algae and what algae need to grow.
