Thriving Outside in the Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum

In an effort to continue to create a culture of wellness on FAU’s Jupiter Campus, the Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum will resume hosting its Thriving Outside in the Arboretum series this Spring coordinated by CES and FAU Thrive . Below is a list of events that are scheduled for Spring 2022. For many of these events, space is limited so be sure to sign up ASAP.

Spring 2022 Schedule:

  • February 10th, 17th & 24th - Tai Chi - Three Thursdays from Noon to 1pm - Join us this February, Thursdays at noon for an hour of Tai Chi! Tai Chi, short for T’ai Chuan or Tai ji quan is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both defense training and its health benefits. Consider Tai Chi as a healthy way to reduce stress and enjoy the outdoors this Spring. Get ready to move and relax with us at the Arboretum!

    February 14th - For The Love of Butterflies- Join us at 3:30 PM for a Butterfly Walk! This Valentine’s Day, make your heart flutter with a butterfly walk at the Arboretum. Learn how to also spot and identify our common local butterflies.  During this walk you will be accompanied by a local butterfly expert from the North American Butterfly Association. The Arboretum has many plants that were specifically planted to attract butterflies.

  • February 25th - 12:30 PM – 2 PM -  Arboretum Adventures - Join us Friday afternoon from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM for a potting event! Potting up seedlings as they grow provides them with the best chance to be able to grow stronger, bigger, and feel less stressed! You can also feel less stressed, as contact with soil benefits can go beyond mood improvement and mental agility. You'll also participate in a scavenger hunt! This is a joint event hosted by both SAVI and EnviroClub. 

  • March 17th - Audubon Bird Walk- Join us at 12 PM for an Audubon Bird Walk. One of the best places to learn about common local bird species at FAU, is at the Arboretum. With the Arboretum being a birding hot spot, this spring will attract many different bird species! Register now - space is limited!

  • March 28th, & April 4th, 11th, & 18th - Tai Chi - Four Mondays from Noon to 1pm - Join us these four Mondays at noon for an hour of Tai Chi!     March 22nd - The Gospel in the Trees: An Evening of Music - Join us at 4:30 for an afternoon of music in this event sponsored by the Kingdom Club. Research shows that music can have a positive impact on your mental health. This event will be held in the Arboretum, where guests will be able to enjoy nature while listening to uplifting music!

  • April 14th - Audubon Bird Walk - Join us at 5:15PM for an Audubon Bird Walk. One of the best places to learn about common local bird species at FAU is at the Arboretum. With the Arboretum being a birding hot spot, and April will attract many more different bird species! Register now - space is limited!

  • April 27th - Pet-A-Pup - Join us from 2-4pm for some cuddly dog therapy! - Exams are always stressful, but spending some time with therapy dogs from the Jupiter Tequesta Dog Club can make the experience more bearable.

Registration is not required. 


  • April 29th - Join us at 10am for an Arbor Day Celebration! - Details for this event will be posted soon. Please save the date!

ASYNCHONOUS EVENTS

  • Arboretum Poetry Contest - April is National Poetry Month! You are invited to submit your original haiku or free verse poetry about the Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum. All submissions must include some aspect of the Arboretum: flowers, trees, birds, butterflies, etc. Focus on one object for inspiration or include as many as you want!  Download the flyer for more information!
  • Nature Bathing Meditation - Grab a moment for yourself and take a stroll through the Arboretum. This Nature Bathing Medidation Booklet will provide guidance to calm your mind by using your 5 sense to focus on your enviroment instead of your thoughts.
