Title: Web Graphic Designer and Content Creator
Location: Davie Campus
Email: rtaber2014@fau.edu

Robin joined CES in 2023 as a web graphic designer and content creator. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from FAU in Media, Technology and Entertainment. She worked as a graduate teaching assistant while in the program and is also an adjunct instructor, teaching drone videography and multimedia, in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. Robin is an Instrument Rated Private Pilot and an FAA 107 sUAS pilot.

From 2017 to 2022, Robin was full-time with FAU’s Research Communications team producing content that included animated videos. Animation is a key tool for science communication as it can provide visual context for research that may not exist in the physical world yet. Other work for the team included designing journal covers, photography, videography, writing, editing and leading workshops in communicating science for undergraduate and graduate students.

Robin’s background is rooted in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. She was a promo graphics designer/animator at the ABC Television Network, Fox, The WB, Fox Family, E! Entertainment and ABC Family. Prior to working in television, she created digital campaigns for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment.

Getting to know Robin Taber: Q & A

When did you start at CES and in what capacity?

I was hired OPS, or Other Personal Services, in January of 2023 with CES as a Web Graphic Designer and Content Creator.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

Doing the bite-sized videos. We write scripts and check the science with Colin. Once the messaging is accurate, I’ll create 2D elements and animate them into these mini explainer-videos that are usually under 1-minute long.

What’s the biggest challenge that you’ve faced since joining CES?

It was a challenge flying the drone in Miami airspace at the convention center. The biggest challenge to date has probably been the Climate Tech Minute series. We were recording video of 1-Print’s CEO, Fredrik Wannius, and there was a 2 story high, concrete jackhammer machine operating right next to us. Additionally coaching any CEO to explain their technology succinctly, on camera, on the fly, is challenging too. I think we shot for 3 hours to get 1-minute of final footage. Everyone is happy with the result, and it’s rewarding when it all comes together successfully.

Which CES values do you believe align well with your own values?

Environmental conservation is a big one. Also supplying visionary possibilities to a broad audience no matter political leanings. I strongly believe that you don’t talk down to your audience but offer context to promote understanding.

What are the things you’ve done at CES that you’re proudest about?

The bite-sized videos are at the top but I’m proud to be part of a team of talented, environmentally conscious people with a wide variety of skills from a wide range of backgrounds.

How do your coworkers inspire you?

I love to learn from everyone. I’m inspired by the empathy, expertise and professionalism of long-time employees as well as the passion of grad students and how everyone comes together to facilitate creative solutions.

What’s the best team-building activity you’ve done?

The shoot at Riverwoods. It wasn’t meant to be a team building activity, but it turned out to be one for me.

What is your favorite memory at CES?

I think one of the favs is the Miami Convention Center. Getting to listen to the panels and shooting footage of the event was a great way to learn about everything there.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Go to the dog park and dog beach (I adopted a husky in April), w ork in the yard, travel, explore new bookstores, art walks and quaint neighborhoods with friends, hike, bird watching, explore trails, and binge watch various fantasy/sci-fi series.

What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?

I’m an instrument rated Private Pilot who used to fly doctors to remote Mexico from Los Angeles so we could provide medical care to underserved areas. We landed on a dirt runway that the local farmer used for his crop-dusting flights. The group was called “Liga: Flying Doctors of Mercy.”

How would your best friend describe you in three words?

I just asked her. She said beautiful (inside and out), smart and spiritual. (She is a very supportive best friend )

If you could pick a superpower, what would it be a why?

I would be a healer. Because I think we all need it.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I have a bucket list. I love vast, beautiful, epic natural spaces as well as beautiful architecture and history. So, most of Europe, Portugal, Spain, Vienna, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, on and on. I want to experience it all.

What’s your favorite type of food?

Greek Pasta
