Title: Environmental Field Technician
Location: Riverwoods Field Lab
Email: mbarlowe@fau.edu

Megan Barlowe is an Environmental Field Technician for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project through CES’ Riverwoods agreement with South Florida Water Management District. She assists with a variety of studies that aim to monitor key indicators of the success and health of the restored Kissimmee River and floodplain such as electrofishing, apple snail monitoring, wading bird food availability surveys, and more.

Megan received her Bachelor of Science in biology with a concentration in ecology and environmental biology from James Madison University in 2022. Her interests with reptiles flourished as she worked and cared for red-sided garter snakes for her thesis while also working with Argentine tegu and Burmese python skin lipids in the lab over the summers as a lab technician. After graduating, Megan assisted at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory working with wild Arizona tiger salamanders and also in Montana as a hawk counter for HawkWatch International for the fall raptor migration.

Megan enjoys this position at CES because of the amazing range and diversity of fieldwork. Each week is different from the last, and she is always learning something new every time she goes out on the river. Joining this team and working on this historic restoration project is a dream come true. Megan can’t wait for what the future holds and look forward to seeing the continuous efforts of this restoration project come to full fruition!
