The American Water Resources Association (AWRA www.awra.org), the State Water Commission of Guanajuato (CEAG www.guanajuato.gob.mx), Mexico, and the WaterWeb Consortium (WWCo, www.waterweb.org)are collaborating to hold the 7th Water Information Summit and WaterWeb Consortium Meeting at the AWRA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida (more info.) and at the ExpoAgua 2004 (more info.) in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Meeting Announcement

The Water Information Summits bring together communication specialists, information and web site managers, academics, scientists, policy-makers, and other water information users and providers. It provides a forum to discuss the state of the art and trends in knowledge management, the application of web-based technologies, and the formation of partnerships.

Fostering cooperation between information providers, developing information sharing techniques and standards, and promoting easy and accurate access to information are major goals of the Summit.

The purpose of these meetings is to continue the exchange of information on the use of the Internet to promote the use of integrated land and water management approaches to cope with the world’s water problems.

Participants may register online on the Conference Registration page. Information on hotel reservations and travel is located on the Hotel, Conference Location, and Travel page. Participants are responsible for their own Hotel reservations.


Abstracts for oral or poster presentations are invited for both meetings and are due by August 30, 2004.

Relevant topics include but are not limited to

  • New information sharing technologies
  • Water and water-related information sharing efforts
  • Water taxonomies, indexing schemes, and the use of metadata
  • Information portals in water management, hydrology, or related fields
  • Internet delivered distance learning and capacity building efforts
  • Information and knowledge needs of watershed managers to implement integrated land and water resources management (IWRM)
  • Case studies are invited on all of the above topics
 


Extended abstracts (1200 words or less) should be submitted electronically from the Abstract Submittal Page. Abstract guidelines are provided on the Abstract Submission page.

All Participants at either WIS-7 venue are responsible for their own travel arrangements and hotel reservations.
