TEACHER WORKSHOPS

Find out about Upcoming Teacher Workshops!

The Center for Environmental Studies has ongoing Teacher Training Workshops at various locations in central and southern Florida. We have worked in partnership with the US EPA, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the US Geological Survey and other local sponsors since 1997.

The Great Water Odyssey Teacher Workshop
The Great Water Odyssey is designed specifically to reach 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and teach them about the importance of our water resources. The computer-based science lesson follows waterdrops Hydro and Agua through the town of Olliewood. The waterdrops change state, float through Florida’s wetlands, rivers and aquifers. The waterdrops recall Florida’s past and even help residents plan their future through water conservation and waterwise landscaping. Each animated learning module is followed by an interactive exploration screen, where students earn points by exploring a scene that reinforces the lesson. Find out about upcoming workshops!

Everglades: An American Treasure Workshop
The Everglades Teacher Workshop teaches educators about the greater Everglades Restoration Project using inter-active classroom activities from The Everglades: An American Treasure resource guide. Formal and informal Florida educators are invited with preference given to secondary educators. We will be planning the 2008 schedule soon. Please contact Alana Edwards if you would like to be contacted with information when it becomes available.

These workshops are sponsored by the South Florida Water Management District. For more information about these workshops, go to the SFWMD's Educational Resource page.

Native Florida Butterflies: Biology and Gardening
Spend the day learning about butterfly biology and gardening and how you can incorporate these beautiful insects into your daily lessons. Florida Butterfly Expert, Alana Edwards, Education & Training Coordinator for Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Environmental Studies, will introduce you to a wealth of butterfly related resources in this one-day workshop. Download a flyer for this workshop.

For more information about any of these workshops, contact Loisa Kerwin .
