Uplands Class - Fall 2011
Oct 26, Nov 2,9,16, 30 and Dec 7th, 2011
8:30am - 5:00pm
Riverwoods Field Lab, located on the Kissimmee River, is offering the Florida Master Naturalist’s Uplands Class for residents and visitors interested in learning more about Florida’s native upland habitats. It is a fun and educational program that is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about Florida's natural environment and conservation issues.
The Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP) is a statewide program developed by the University of Florida/IFAS that requires 40 contact hours in education for all participants. FMNP targets people interested in learning about Florida's natural ecosystems and conservation issues. The FMNP is interesting for all of Florida’s citizens and seasonal residents, volunteers, and ecotourism guides that want to improve their environmental knowledge
The class consists of morning presentations by Riverwoods staff and environmental experts, and afternoon field trips to explore local upland habitats. Field trips include the Kissimmee Prairie State Preserve, a local cattle ranch and Archbold Biological Station. This year, the student project will be a volunteer day helping with uplands restoration at the Royce Ranch.
