Everglades: An American Treasure
Everglades: An American Treasure is part of the Newspapers in Education (NIE) series and was developed by the South Florida Water Management District in partnership with numerous partner organizations and agencies. This curriculum introduces students to the both the northern and southern Everglades ecosystems, guiding them through the entire Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades Watershed. It includes 8 lessons -- all of which are correlated to Florida’s SSS’s for middle and high school students.
Teacher Training Workshops
In the Everglades: An American Treasure Teacher Trainings educators learn about the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) using inter-active classroom activities from the Everglades: An American Treasure resource guide. Teachers will also learn about the Loxahatchee Impoundment Landscape Assessment (LILA), the model for Everglades restoration, and will receive the new LILA curriculum. Formal and informal Florida educators are invited.
We have completed all trainings for 2009 and will soon schedule our 2010 dates. To receive information about upcoming workshops, please contact:
