Education Programs

The Florida Center for Environmental Studies (CES) has been conducting environmental education programs throughout the Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades Watershed since 1998. Our programs target teachers, students and adults, and focus on wetlands, ocean energy, climate change and ecosystem restoration.

CES has been facilitating Teacher Training Workshops throughout the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) 16-county region since 2000 with support from SFWMD and other agencies. Hundreds of elementary and secondary teachers have learned about the importance of protecting Florida’s watersheds and conserving natural resources. In addition, CES has developed curriculum for secondary students that focus on renewable ocean energy and climate change.
CES offers a variety of Adult educations programs at the Riverwoods Field Lab and Dupuis Management Area. At Riverwoods, adult groups can Explore the Kissimmee River, or you can learn more about native Florida ecosystems by registering for the Florida Master Naturalist Program. At Dupuis, join us at one of the upcoming Nature Lectures featuring speakers who share their expertise on interesting environmental topics.
Our programs for students, including Field Studies, service-learning opportunities and internships, get students out of the classroom and into the natural environment. Through hands-on activities, students learn about the importance of our valuable water resources and ecosystems in southern Florida..
