CES is fortunate that the FAU Foundation sponsors our Science Enrichment Program at the DuPuis Nature Center. The goal of our Science Enrichment Program is to help enhance Indiantown’s rural, minority students’ understanding of science and develop a love of Florida’s natural environment. We use the field studies trips to DuPuis Nature Center as the “hook” to get students outside, exploring and learning about scientific terms and processes, while having fun! This year, our Science Enrichment Program reached almost 500 students including:
- Legacy students from Clark High School
- All 8th graders from Indiantown Middle School
- All 5th graders from Indiantown Middle School
- All 4th graders from Warfield Elementary School
- Indiantown YMCA Summer Camp students
- Indiantown Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp students
Our Science Enrichment
Program has many benefits for students. It increases their scientific understanding, environmental knowledge, observation, field skills, data collection and interpretation. They learn about water quality issues impacting our region, and the importance of protection of Florida’s natural environment. Student exploration of DuPuis’ natural lands enhances their environmental awareness, and hopefully, develops their environmental ethics and stewardship of our natural lands.
