Walter and Lalita Janke Innovations in Sustainability Science Research Fund

Colin Signing

In December 2015, FAU’s Center for Environmental Studies received a $1 million gift from Dr. Walter and Lalita Janke to establish the Walter and Lalita Janke Innovations in Sustainability Science Research Fund, which will support faculty research that advances knowledge and applications relevant for improving environmental sustainability. The fund will promote an annual $50,000 competitive research grant to a faculty researcher or research team at FAU. CES at FAU, which advances Florida’s sustainability by seeding collaborative research, education, and community engagement activities, leveraged additional resources for this competition in 2016 and 2017 allowing us to make several additional awards at $5,000 each. To date, FAU researchers have received $330,000 as a result of this funding.

The funded projects will provide support and training for student researchers; promote inter-disciplinary collaborations; develop momentum for additional external research funding proposals; and generate high-quality, publishable scientific papers.
